What is there to do at the Mid-South Book Festival?
We have lots going on between September 7-11!
We're kicking off the week on Wednesday, September 7th with our Literacy Summit, a conference for nonprofit employees, parents, grandparents, and teachers.
On Friday, September 9th, we'll host Words Matter to kick off the weekend.
On Saturday, we will host our Street Fair featuring free panel discussions featuring 70 local and national authors, book signings, food trucks, vendors, and a children's area.
On Sunday, September 11th, we will host our Student Writers Conference.
How much does the Mid-South Book Festival cost?
All of our events on Saturday, including the street fair and the panel discussions, are free and open to the public!
The cost of the Student Writers Conference is $10--a sweet deal!
Where do we park?
Overton Square will be a very busy place on September 10th. You can park in the Playhouse on the Square parking lot between the Exchange Club of Memphis and Playhouse on the Square, the parking garage, or find street parking. We recommend arriving early on Saturday, September 10th for the 10:00am panel sessions to beat the crowd.
Tell me more about the panel discussions on Saturday, September 10th
These panel discussions will cover many topics, from murder and kidnapping to alternative literary spaces. There is something for everyone! Come early and grab a seat because of these panel discussions will be standing room only!
I want an author to sign my book. What should I do?
Each author will have a book signing immediately following their panel discussion. They'll be happy to sign your book!
Should I bring my own book or can I purchase a book at the event?
Booksellers at Laurelwood and Burke's Book Store will be on hand to sell books for most of the authors at the event. Some authors will be selling their own books.
Can I bring my children?
Yes, we have a fun kids area that will feature Jet Propulsion – from the PBS Children’s program, Ready, Jet, Go!, Peg+Cat (both costume characters) – from the PBS Children’s program, Peg+Cat, and Lewis the Duck! We'll also have story time throughout the day featuring authors like Jessica Young..
